Delegation from University of Helsinki visits icipe

It was an honour to welcome, a high level delegation from The University of Helsinki, a lead partner in the CHIESA project who visited icipe on Tuesday March 3rd, 2015. The delegation met with the Director General of icipe Dr. Segenet Kelemu, CHIESA Project Coordinator Dr. Tino Johansson and other representatives from the organization.


The delegation comprised of: Chancellor of the University of Helsinki, Professor Thomas Wilhelmsson ;Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Jouko Väänänen; Professor Laura Kolbe, Department of European History; Professor Juha Karhu, Head of the Department of Geosciences and Geography ;Professor Kurt Fagerstedt, Head of the Department of Biosciences;Dr. Heidi Andersson, member of Board of Directors, WWF Finland;Professor Petri Pellikka, Department of Geosciences and Geography;Professor Jouko Rikkinen, Department of Biosciences;Director and cinematographer Mr. Toni Laine and Professor Jussi Pakkasvirta, Department of Political and Economic Studies.

The team also had a chance to tour The Martin Luscher Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory and the African Reference Laboratory of bee health both within the icipe campus while learning more about the research and development activities in the organization.

The team had the opportunity to learn about some of the research that icipe is taking part in through presentations from Dr Tobias Landmann and Prof. Mutero. The highlights and achievements of the CHIESA project were presented by Project Coordinator Dr. Tino Johansson;Crispus Mugambi and Sizah Mwalusepo both PhD students in the project.

The delegation will later on visit the Taita Hills project site for the CHIESA project.
